FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: when implementing the method, samples of used oil are collected, divided into two portions; the first portion undergoes photometering; the light flux absorption factor is determined; the second portion of the sample having constant weight undergoes temperature control while stirring at temperature corresponding to the purpose of the oil for a constant period of time; photometric measurements are taken; the light flux absorption factor is determined; two curves of distribution of the sample amount versus the selected intervals of values of the light flux absorption factor are plotted, and the limiting value of the light flux absorption factor is determined from the point of intersection of the two curves, and the working capacity of the lubricating oil is determined from said limiting value; if the value of the light flux absorption factor is less than the limiting value, the oil is suitable for use, otherwise it is not suitable for use.

EFFECT: easier evaluation of the working capacity of lubricating oil.
