SUBSTANCE: invention relates to window element and method of fitting said element into aircraft structural part. Window element prepared for painting by masking comprises window frame to be jointed with structural part in window opening, and window assembly with inner window glass, outer window glass and sealing section enveloping both. Window assembly is arranged between retainer and window frame by fasteners to secure window assembly on window frame. Sealing section has inclined outer surface. Window frame has inclined inner surface to adjoin sealing section inclined outer surface. Both said inclined surfaces ensure self-centring of window assembly in window frame. Window element comprises protective means partially closing outer window glass and protective band enveloping said protective means. First section of protective band covers edge of protective means while second section is located on sections between outer and inner inclined surfaces. Proposed methods comprises fitting window element into structural part opening, painting structural part and removing protective band and means.
