SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of agriculture and agricultural chemistry. The method includes determining with a portable device for foliar diagnosis of actual level of chlorophyll content in leaves taking into account varietal characteristics. The optimal value of the level of chlorophyll content in leaves is determined, as well as the number of kilograms of active ingredient of nitrogen fertiliser (K) corresponding to 1 standard unit of chlorophyll content in leaves. By the difference between its optimal and actual values (P) the judgment can be made about the need for application of nitrogen fertiliser, and the dose (N) is calculated by the formula N=K×P, where K is the number of kilograms of active ingredient of nitrogen fertiliser corresponding to 1 standard unit of chlorophyll content in leaves; and P is the difference between the optimal and the actual values of the level of chlorophyll content in leaves, in standard units.

EFFECT: method enables to increase the operational efficiency of determining the dose of nitrogen fertiliser in the field.
