FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to synthesis of polymers with terminal acid groups. Described is a method of producing polymers with terminal acid groups, characterised by that the polymers are obtained via atom-transfer radical polymerisation (ATRP) using an initiator with an active group X, which is chlorine, bromine or iodine, wherein when polymerisation stops, a suitable acid functional group-containing sulphur compound is added, which is mercaptan or another organic compound containing a mercapto group, with substitution of halogen atoms at the ends of the polymer chains, wherein a transition metal compound is simultaneously deposited from polymer solutions by adding said sulphur compound and separated by subsequent filtration. The invention also describes polymers obtained using said method, having molecular weight distribution less than 1.5, halogen content less 0.1 wt % and have an acid group on one of the ends of the chain. Use of said polymers is described.

EFFECT: high thermal stability of the obtained polymers, simultaneous extraction of transition metal complexes with functionalisation of polymers and removal of halogen atoms.
