FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: illuminator has a heat-removing base with a hole for radiation output, light-emitting diodes mounted on the periphery of the hole, at a distance from which there is a radiator in form of a concave layer of photoluminescent material whose concave side faces the light-emitting diodes and the output hole. When primary radiation from light-emitting diodes falls on the surface of the radiator, white light formed as a result of mixing reflected primary radiation and secondary radiation from the photoluminescent material enters the hole in the heat-removing base and white light formed as a result of mixing primary radiation which has passed through the radiator and secondary radiation from the photoluminescent material comes out through the layer of photoluminescent material. The concave surface of the radiator can be in form of a cut-off ellipsoid of revolution, particularly a sphere or paraboloid, having the principal axis perpendicular to the plane of the hole in the heat-removing base, or a cylinder cut-off by the plane of the output hole.
EFFECT: high efficiency of illumination, ensuring colour uniformity and wider light flux.
