FIELD: electricity.

SUBSTANCE: in a method of rotary electric machine operation an electric machine is connected in a phased manner to a circuit of a frequency converter with a DC voltage circuit to generate at least two voltage levels. Phases of the frequency converter circuit are connected with the DC voltage circuit by a selected combination of locating switching elements of power semiconductor switches. When operating a rotary electric machine, as combinations of locations of switching elements with appropriate trajectories of a rotation torque and a magnetic stator flux are outside the range of the specified values, maximum values are identified and summed from values of rotation torque and stator flux deviation for a certain number of L reading moments, such a combination of switching elements position is selected, at which the sum of maximum values is lowest. Alternatively a sum of values exceeding the rotation torque is calculated, as well as a sum of values exceeding the stator flux for L reading moments, and such combination of switching elements position is selected, at which the maximum value is the least.

EFFECT: invention provides for control of switching elements combination with appropriate trajectory of rotation torque and magnetic trajectory of stator flux lying outside the range of the specified values.
