FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an improved method of producing 4,4'-bis(4-nitrophenoxy)bisphenyl by reacting n-nitrochlorobenzene II with a 4,4'-biphenyldiol salt III in aprotic nonpolar solvents of the aromatic family in the presence of phase-transfer catalysts - ammonium or pyridinium salts QHlg (where Q=Alk4N, Alk2NPyAlk'; Hlg=Cl, Br). The method involves adding 4,4'-biphenyldiol III into a nonpolar solvent containing calcium carbonate, water and a QHlg catalyst, stirring at 50-60°C for 0.5 hours and n-nitrochlorobenzene II is added to the obtained reaction mass, heated to 115-130°C while stirring and holding at that temperature for 3.5-4.0 hours. The ratio of reactants II:III:K2CO3:H2O:QHlg=2.0:1.0:1.0-3.0:1.0-3.0:0.01 mol.
EFFECT: method enables to obtain a product with high output.
