FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to preparation of substituted indenes of formula (I) or (Ia), which are intermediates of high importance for preparation of efficient compounds in pahrmacy, agricultural plants' protection, preparation of fine chemical products, liquid crystals and metallocene catalysts used for α-olefine polymerisation. Besdies, the said invention relates to novel compounds of formula (II) and application thereof as starting substances in synthesis of substituted indenes of formula (I) or (Ia). The method implies converting compound of formula (II) to bis(metal)organic compound of formula (III) and reacting the latter with a compound of formula R1COY (IV), which results in indanole of formula (V), and converting of the latter to indene of formula (I) or (Ia) by water elimination in the presence of acidic catalyst. Compound of formula (II) is obtained by coupling a compound of formula (VI) with a compound of formula R2-X2 (VII) in the presence of transition metal used as a catalyst, compound of either formula (VI) or formula (VII) being first converted to corresponding organometallic compound, and coupling product of formula (VIII) being reacted with brominating agent, which is followed by substitution of bromine atoms thus introduced with chlorine atoms, resulting in compound of formula (II). Meanings of substituents R1-R5, X, М, Y, X1, X2 are shown in formula of invention.
EFFECT: improved method for preparation of substituted indenes.
