FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: probing signal is emitted; an echo signal is received; the received time realisation of the echo signal is discretised; the time realisation of the discretised readings with duration T is selected; the spectrum of the selected time realisation is determined; the value of the spectral reading which exceeds a threshold is determined; the amplitude of the spectral reading which exceeded the threshold and the time for selecting the time realisation are recorded. Further, the next time realisation with duration T, which is shifted relative that which exceeded the threshold by T/4, is selected; the spectrum of the selected time realisation, which is shifted relative that which exceeded the threshold by T/4, is determined; the value of the spectral reading exceeding the threshold is determined; the amplitude and time for selection of the time realisation are stored; the numbers of spectral readings of these realisations are compared and if they match, the distance to the target is determined based on a given mathematical relationship.
EFFECT: high accuracy of measuring distance using high-duration signals with simultaneous potential accuracy of measuring the speed of the target.
