FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: gripper mechanism comprises clamped tubular part, drilled tubular part and, at least, one grooved tubular part. Clamped tubular part is required for concentric coverage of tube billet. Drilled tubular part is arranged concentrically relative to clamped tubular part relative said clamped part and provided with tapered radial holes. Said holes house first line of hard balls to displace radially. At least, one grooved tubular part may displace axially relative to drilled part and is furnished with lengthwise grooves. Balls fit partially in said grooves. Lengthwise grooves are somewhat wider than ball diameter and feature variable depth. Grooved part axial displacement in one direction provided for radial displacement of balls in tube direction, tube gripping and its deformation, or, in opposite direction, for its release.
EFFECT: proper tube orientation, protection of tube against chip formation.
