FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: mutually orthogonal horizontal magnetic and electric components HX, Hy, Ex, Ey of the strength of the Earth's natural magnetic field are measured. Impedance values Z1=Ex/Hy and Z2-Ey/Hx are calculated in a processing device. The impedance values are then used to determine time variation of electrical resistances PK1(Z1,t) and PK2(Z2,t), the abrupt jump, more than five times greater than pre-measured background data b1(Z1,t), b2(Z2,t), of which indicates an imminent phase of faults in the top part of the geological section during a time t from 1 to 15 days.
EFFECT: high accuracy and information content of the obtained geophysical data.
