FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: mutually orthogonal horizontal magnetic and electric components H_X, H_y, E_x, E_y of the strength of the Earth's natural magnetic field are measured. Impedance values Z₁=E_x/H_y and Z₂-E_y/H_x are calculated in a processing device. The impedance values are then used to determine time variation of electrical resistances P_K1(Z₁,t) and P_K2(Z₂,t), the abrupt jump, more than five times greater than pre-measured background data _b1(Z₁,t), _b2(Z₂,t), of which indicates an imminent phase of faults in the top part of the geological section during a time t from 1 to 15 days.

EFFECT: high accuracy and information content of the obtained geophysical data.
