FIELD: information technology.

SUBSTANCE: method of displaying television frames in 4:3 and 16:9 format is characterised by that according to the disclosed method, the raster format of the display device is taken as equal to 5:3. The number of active elements in a raster line on the horizontal is taken, according to the ITU BT - 709 recommendation, as equal to 1920, and the number of active lines is determined from the relationship 1920 x h/b = 1920 x 3/5 = 1152, where b is the width of the image, h is the height of the image, wherein during display of a frame in the format 16:9, a process field is obtained for displaying additional information in the lower part of the image, and when a frame is displayed in the 4:3 format, one or two side process fields are obtained on the image, wherein during display of high definition television images, the number of active raster units is equal to 768 x 1280, and during display of a standard definition television image, the number of active raster units must be equal to 576 x 960.

EFFECT: displaying television frames in 4:3 and 16:9 formats in one display device without distortions and allocating a process field for letter-digital display of audio information.
