FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention may be used for early prediction of pneumonia is small premature newborns suffering respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). Substance of the method consists in the fact that blood serum of a 3-day-old newborn is examined for the levels of anti-inflammatory cytokines: interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1RA) and interleukin-10 (IL-10), and if observing the IL-1RA value more than 670 pg/ml and the IL-10 value more then 80 mg/ml enables predicting developing pneumonia in the small premature newborn with RDS.
EFFECT: use of the method enables predicting pneumonia in small premature newborns suffering respiratory distress syndrome at early stages.
