SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of preparing a shell-type catalyst. The method of preparing a catalyst consisting of a support and a catalytically active mass deposited on the support, in which adhesion of the active mass with the surface of the support is provided through a binding agent, the active mass is a finely dispersed mixture of at least one finely dispersed multi-element oxide containing Mo and V and at least one finely dispersed substance S, selected from a group comprising molybdenum oxides or molybdenum compounds, from which under the effect of high temperature and molecular oxygen molybdenum oxide forms, wherein the molybdenum oxide is a substance having content of Mo and O of at least 98 wt %. A catalyst and a method for partial oxidation of acrolein to acrylic acid are also disclosed.
