FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ultrahigh molecular high-strength high-modulus polyethylene fibres (UHMPE fibre) and specifically to improvement of physical and mechanical properties of the fibres: reducing creep and increasing modulus of elasticity. The method involves treatment of the UHMPE fibres with high-frequency capacitive discharge with high-frequency current with frequency of 13.56 MHz, ion energy of 10-100 eV, ion current density of 0.3-0.6 A/m2 and pressure of 13-133 Pa. Treatment takes 0.5-3 minutes. The plasma-supporting gas used is a mixture of argon with propane and butane.
EFFECT: considerable reduction in creep of UHMPE fibres by 2,75-fold and up to 25% increase in modulus of elasticity.
