SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing hydrocarbon compounds containing at least one nitrile functional group. The method of producing adiponitrile via hydrocyanation of butadiene, in the presence of a catalyst system, involving one or more steps for separating the hydrocyanation medium to nitrile compounds suitable for recycling, selected from adiponitrile, 2-pentenonitrile, 4-pentenonitrile, 2-methylbut-3-enonitrile or mixtures thereof, and nitrile by-products which are not suitable for recycling, selected from methyl gluratonitrile, ethyl succinonitrile, 2-pentenonitrile, 2-methylbut-2-enonitrile and mixtures thereof, characterised by that the nitrile by-products which are not suitable for recycling are treated during a step for hydrodenitrogenation with hydrogen at absolute hydrogen pressure between 0.1 MPa and 10 MPa and temperature between 200°C and 500°C in the presence of a hydrodenitrogenation catalyst, in order to convert said by-products to ammonia and hydrocarbon compounds.
EFFECT: aim of the present invention is to provide a method which does not involve burning and enables to improve overall cost effectiveness, recycle by-products which are suitable for recycling and beneficially recycled in a method of producing adiponitrile.
