FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of producing an alkali metal salt of triflic acid (trifluoromethane sulphinic acid) of high purity from an aqueous mixture containing said acid along with a trifluoroacetate and salt impurities formed from synthesis method thereof. In the disclosed method, said mixture undergoes the following operations: first acidification with a strong acid, controlled such that a trifluoroacetate is primarily released in its acidic form, wherein the most of the amount of triflic acid remains in salt form; possible separation of salts formed from the acid which was used for acidification, and separating the aqueous phase; extracting trifluoroacetic acid from the separated aqueous phase containing an alkali metal salt of triflic acid, trifluoroacetic acid, triflic acid, excess strong acid, to obtain an aqueous phase poor in trifluoroacetic acid but containing an alkali metal salt of triflic acid; separating the alkali metal salt of triflic acid from the aqueous phase.
