FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: method involves parallel tracking of a helicopter on range and Doppler frequency caused by the approach velocity of the helicopter to its tracking station, in each optimum filter of their matrix based on an optimum multidimensional linear discrete Kalman filtration procedure and recognition, based on the Pearson chi-square criterion, the nature of the flight of the helicopter and a version of its behaviour with the corresponding nature of the flight based on the minimum generalised variance of real filtering error criterion. A state vector estimate is generated at the output only after making a decision on the validity of a complex hypothesis with respect to the nature of the flight of the helicopter and its corresponding behaviour.

EFFECT: broader functional capabilities for recognising the state of a helicopter-class aerial target at its tracking phase.
