SUBSTANCE: in a blood serum of a bird concentration of calcium, zinc, magnesium, phosphates is identified. The alkaline phosphatase index (API) is calculated using the following formula: 
where AP - activity of alkaline phosphatase, E/l; Ca - concentration of calcium, mmole/l; Zn - concentration of zinc, mmole/l; Mg - concentration of magnesium, mmole/l; P - concentration of phosphates, mole/l; 10 - normalising coefficient. If the API is 27.7-28.2 of conventional units, laying hens are referred to as highly productive, if the API is less than 27.7 - as low-productive.
EFFECT: method makes it possible to detect laying hens with high potential of productivity.
