FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the technique of obtaining optical and acoustic pulses in a conducting liquid and can be used to purify liquids and in seismic prospecting. According to the invention, optical and impact waves in an electrolyte are obtained using a multifocal electric discharge formed between electrodes separated by a perforated dielectric barrier, immersed in an electrolyte and connected to a high-voltage power supply whose discharge circuit includes an inductor. The invention is characterised by that the additional inductor used is a long insulated conductor or a shielded cable on which one or both electrodes are dipped into the sea, ocean or well. The method is realised using a device in which the reservoir with electrolyte is a water body, e.g., the sea or ocean, or an artesian or oil well. The high-voltage power supply used is a voltage transformer or a high-voltage rectifier or a capacitor bank, placed on the earth's surface or in the well. The high-voltage electrode may be made of several sections insulated from each other and connected to different cable conductors and different phases of the power supply.

EFFECT: invention provides efficient purification of a liquid and enables to obtain seismic waves which are used in mineral prospecting.
