SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an image display device having a display mode wherein a decorative image or picture, photograph or similar is displayed, a television receiver, a method of controlling the image display device and a method of controlling the television receiver. The image display device has a liquid crystal display unit having an image display screen. The screen provides brightness of not more than 50 Cd/m² for displaying a decorative image. The display device also has a backlight which is provided behind the liquid crystal display unit. The backlight provides brightness of not more than 1500 Cd/m² for displaying a decorative image in the liquid crystal display unit.
