FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: method of measuring refraction indices of gaseous media is based on measuring frequency of a tunable single-frequency laser which is tuned at maximum selected mode of a highly stable multi-beam Fabry-Perot interferometer, when the inter-mirror space is filled with a gaseous medium and when it is evacuated. The refraction index of the gaseous medium is determined by the ratio of the measured frequencies in a vacuum and in the presence of the gaseous medium.

EFFECT: frequency-based method of detecting maximum bandwidth o the selected mode of a multi-beam Fabry-Perot interferometer increases accuracy of measuring refraction indices of gaseous media.
