FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: whenever a grounding fault (17) occurs, measured current value is determined in the area, as well as the measured voltage value, and the measured value of the grounding current is determined. Using the determined measured values, the value of the fault area is calculated, which indicates the grounding fault area (17) in the area (10). The value of the fault area is formed using impedance of an area line and earth impedance for soil arranged along the area (10). The earth impedance value used to form the fault area value is set dynamically. For dynamic detection of the earth impedance value a model description (28) is used, which takes into account at least two factors (24, 25) of impact at earth impedance and provides a characteristic (28) of earth impedance along the entire length of the area (10).
EFFECT: more accurate detection of arising ground fault location.
