FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a simple design of a differential microcalorimeter, wherein two calorimetric cells are heat insulated from each other and each is provided with temperature sensors in form of a single thermocouple or a resistance thermometer, connected to each other through a differential circuit or a balanced bridge circuit. Disclosed also is a method of measuring heat release, according to which the powder under test is poured in both calorimetric cells in equal amounts by weight, after which water or another liquid is added to one of the cells and heat release is recorded from the instant the liquid touches the powder.
EFFECT: high reliability and accuracy of measurements.
