SUBSTANCE: in the method of operation of a converter comprising a converting unit with multiple controlled power semiconductor switches and connected with an electric grid of AC voltage, controlled power semiconductor switches are controlled by means of a control signal (S_a), generated from a control signal (S_r). The control signal (S_r) is generated by control of an H higher harmonic of grid currents (i_NH) to the specified value (i_NHref) of grid current, where H=1, 2, 3,…. The specified value (i_NHref) of grid current is generated by control of the value of the specified value (u_NHref) of grid voltage, at the same time the difference (u_NHdiff) of control between the H higher harmonic of grid voltages (u_nh) and the specified value (u_NHref) of grid voltage is assessed with the help of impedance (y_NH) of the grid detected in respect to the H higher harmonic.

EFFECT: reduction of higher harmonics in AC grid voltage connected with a converter.
