METHOD FOR THERMAL CONTROL OF ELECTROLYSIS CELLS FOR PRODUCING MAGNESIUM AND CHLORINE AND APPARATUS FOR REALISING SAID METHOD Russian patent published in 2013 - IPC C25C3/04

Abstract RU 2479675 C1

FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: during electrolysis of chlorine-magnesium material in electrolysis cells with a top anode inlet, heat is removed from the top part of the anodes above the cover by feeding coolant into the compartments, controlling coolant flow when feeding said coolant into the compartments, removing the heated coolant from the compartments and circulation thereof in the closed loop of one electrolysis cell and in the common circulation loop of the group of electrolysis cells using pumps. The coolant used is distilled water which is cooled in a heat exchanger to temperature of 45-75°C. When removing heat from the top part of the anodes, pressure and temperature are simultaneously measured in the closed loop of each electrolysis cell when removing the heated distilled water and in the common circulation loop of the group of electrolysis cells before and after cooling. Pressure in the system is stabilised and maintained using an expansion tank and temperature is stabilised and maintained by changing flow of coolant into the heat exchanger. The flow rate of water in the common circulation loop of the group of electrolysis cells is also measured. An apparatus for thermal control of electrolysis cells for producing magnesium and chlorine is also disclosed.

EFFECT: rapid control of operation of electrolysis cells, longer service life of anodes and electrolysis cells and fewer accidents in the group of electrolysis cells.
