METHOD OF THERMAL CONTROL OVER ELECTROLYZERS AND DEVICE FOR ITS IMPLEMENTATION Russian patent published in 1999 - IPC

Abstract RU 2128733 C1

FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy, production of aluminum. SUBSTANCE: method of thermal control over electrolyzers involves heat abstraction from anodes by supply of steam and air mixture under excessive pressure into evaporation cooling system made up of jackets, pressure and circulating collectors, drum-separator and pumps, keeping optimal temperature of electrolyte in electrolyzers manufactured in the form of lined bath divided by one or several partitions into one or several collecting cells and into two or more electrolytic compartments where cathodes and anodes are installed. Separable jackets made in the form of plates or half-tubes are connected to anode heads. Jackets of one anode head are interconnected in series and jackets of anode heads are connected in parallel. Flow governor is placed at inlet to each group of electrolyzers. Temperature is controlled in case of variation from optimal one by control over heat removal. Temperature of steam and air mixture in evaporation cooling system is controlled by maintenance of specified pressure up to 4.0 MPa and optimal temperature of electrolyte is sustained by change of pressure in group of jackets of each electrolyzer. Pressure in jacket is kept less or equal to pressure in pressure collector, pressure in circulating collector is maintained higher or equal to pressure in drum-separator. Control over temperature of electrolyte is carried out by disconnection and/or connection of jackets to pressure and circulating collectors. EFFECT: provision for control over temperature mode of group of electrolyzers in process of operation. 9 cl, 3 dwg
