FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy, namely production of magnesium by electrolysis.
SUBSTANCE: electrolyzer for producing magnesium includes lined bath, cathodes and graphitized anodes. The last are inserted at upper side through roof. Electrolyzer also includes copper current supply buses connected with anodes at both sides by means of steel straps and tightening bolts, tube system for water cooling of copper buses combined to closed hydraulic circuit with apparatus for controlling temperature of water in tubes. Said tubes are made of copper and they are secured directly to outer surface of electric current supplying copper buses by means of straps having grooves for tubes; depth of said grooves is less than diameter of copper tubes. Copper tubes may be welded to outer surface of copper buses or they may be welded to upper and lower faces of current supplying copper buses. Method provides heat sink from copper bus by means of water circulating in closed circuit. Water temperature in closed circuit is sustained in range 20 - 100°C. As anode wear increases temperature of water is lowered.
EFFECT: lowered specific consumption of electric energy, increased useful life period of anodes and the whole electrolyzer due to reliable electric contact of current supplying copper bus with water cooled graphite head of anode.
