FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: in the method of determining the position of measured depths using audio signals, the audio signals are emitted through a multibeam echo sounder, reflected signals are received and processed and depth values at different inclinations of emission are determined, while determining the error in estimating the position of the reflected signal from accidental turning of the vessel. Emission of audio signals is carried out on 32 channels; upon reception of the reflected signals, 256 beams are formed; archival data are used to determine the position of local hazardous topographic forms; when determining depth values over local hazardous topographic forms which exceed the measured background depths, the resolution of measuring depth in the transverse direction is reduced, by cutting the capture range, when detecting depths which exceed measured background depths; the diameter of the hazardous topographic form is calculated.

EFFECT: high accuracy of measuring depth using a multibeam echo sounder by obtaining accurate measurement error.
