VORTEX CONTACT STAGE FOR CONTACTING GAS OR VAPOR WITH FLUID Russian patent published in 2013 - IPC B01D3/30 

FIELD: process engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to heat-and-mass exchangers intended for rectification, absorption and extraction in chemical, petrochemical and other industries. Vortex contact stage comprises tank shell section with horizontal tray baffles alternating over height of the latter. Top trays are furnished with central overflow barrel and outer drain barrel while bottom trays have outer overflow barrel and drain pipe. Tray horizontal baffles accommodate vapor (gas) swirlers composed of tangential shaped plates closed by top cover with contact pipe and bottom cover to make vapor (gas) passage. Ends of two adjacent shaped plates on gas (vapor) inlet are plugged together to make fluid passage. Top covers of gas (vapor) swirlers are furnished with cylindrical inserts arranged coaxially with contact pipes to make fluid column cavity. Note here that top covers have, at least, one bore to communicate fluid passage with fluid column cavity.

EFFECT: higher efficiency of mass exchange and capacity owing to eliminated fluid spray, extra phase contact surface area and fluid distribution over swirler perimetre.
