SUBSTANCE: phospholipid index is calculated according to the formula: 
where PLI is phospholipid index, c.u.; PC is the concentration of phosphatidylcholines in blood serum, mmol/L; PE is the concentration of phosphatidylethanolamines in blood serum, mmol/L; PI is the concentration of phosphatidylinositols in blood serum, mmol/L; LL is the concentration of lysolecithines in blood serum, mmol/L; CL is the concentration of cardiolipin in blood serum, mmol/L; SpM is the concentration of sphingomyelins in blood serum, mmol/L. If the PLI value is 12.4-15.6 c.u., the level of safety of chickens is 98.7-99.2%, and if the value is 5.9-6.8 c.u. the level is 96.0-96.1%.
EFFECT: use of this method enables to monitor the physiological condition of the poultry during the growing period, and to select chickens with a high level of viability for selection and breeding.
