FIELD: power engineering.
SUBSTANCE: method to form a fuel core of a fuel rod consists in automatic detection of each pellet density with assignment of a number to it and formation of an automated data base. On its basis the pellets are selected in groups so that each group of pellets had minimum deviation from the average value of the density of the entire batch of pellets for one fuel element. Afterwards the selected groups of pellets are laid along the length of the core, at the same time the groups with higher density are arranged closer to end parts of the fuel element, and with the smaller density - in its middle part. Due to the proposed method of fuel element core formation, the deviation of pellet column density from the average value does not exceed 1.5-2%.
EFFECT: provision of evenness of temperature field distribution due to even distribution of density along the length of the fuel element cores.
