METHOD FOR EARLY DETECTION OF HIGH RISK OF DEVELOPING IMPAIRED GLUCOSE TOLERANCE WITH UNDERLYING METOPROLOL ADMINISTRATION IN PATIENTS WITH STABLE EFFORT ANGINA Russian patent published in 2013 - IPC G01N33/50 A61B5/42 A61B5/15 A61K31/138 A61K31/7004 A61P9/10 A61P43/00

Abstract RU 2498306 C2

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: metoprolol therapy is preceded by conducting 2 exercise tests on the same day to achieve a load power according to the same protocol, initially and 2 hours after administration of a single dose of metoprolol 50 mg. If observing an interval gain of 120 second and more at the 2nd load as compared to the 1st load from the beginning of the load before an angina attack and/or reduction of an ischemic ST segment on the electrocardiogram at a depth not less than 1 mm, a risk of impaired glucose tolerance is considered to be high. In this case, 4-5 weeks after the routine administration of metoprolol, glucose tolerance is tested. If glucose tolerance is diagnosed, the metoprolol therapy is discontinued. If the 2nd load as compared to the 1st load shows an interval to the angina attack and/or reduction of the ischemic ST segment on the electrocardiogram at a depth less than 1 mm increasing less than by 120 seconds, a risk of developing impaired glucose tolerance is considered to be negligible. In this case, the metoprolol therapy is continued with no additional glucose tolerance test.

EFFECT: method provides the prevention of carbohydrate metabolic imbalance in the declared group of the patients with underlying metoprolol administration and the ability of the well-timed therapeutic correction ensured by detecting a compensatory increase of glucose consumption accompanying insulin resistance and decreased free fatty acid availability to provide the myocardium energy demands.
