FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to antimicrobial compositions. The synergetic antimicrobial composition contains: (a) a hydroxymethyl-substituted phosphorus-containing compound which is selected from a group comprising tetrakis(hydroxymethyl)phosphonium and tris(hydroxymethyl)phosphine salts; and (b) tris(hydroxymethyl)nitromethane. The weight ratio of the hydroxymethyl-substituted phosphorus-containing compound to tris(hydroxymethyl)nitromethane ranges from 8:1 to 1:12. A medium at temperature of at least 60°C and containing at least 4 ppm sulphides is mixed with: (a) a hydroxymethyl-substituted phosphorus-containing compound and (b) tris(hydroxymethyl)nitromethane. The weight ratio of the hydroxymethyl-substituted phosphorus-containing compound to tris(hydroxymethyl)nitromethane ranges from 1:1.5 to 1:12.
EFFECT: invention increases activity of the composition.
