SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a data carrier, in particular a valuable or security document. The data carrier has window which extends from a lower side to an upper side of the data carrier, and a film element having a security element which covers the window on the upper side of the data carrier. One portion of the security element lies over the window and one portion of the security element lies adjacent to the window. The portion of the security element lying over the window has a radiation-modified region which is superimposed with the window, wherein the visual appearance of the security element is modified by means of electromagnetic radiation on said portion.
EFFECT: data carrier provides high counterfeit protection.
