SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an apparatus for thermal hydrolysis of organic material, wherein at least a heating element and a cooling element are provided for heating or cooling the organic material. The apparatus is characterised by that the heating elements and cooling elements are, respectively, heat exchangers in which heat exchange occurs between the organic material and a medium. The organic material and the medium in all heat exchangers are separated from each other. The invention also relates to a thermal hydrolysis method.
EFFECT: use of the present invention enables to optimise hydrolysis results while simultaneously reducing demand for thermal energy from outside.
