FIELD: tobacco industry.

SUBSTANCE: increased safety and accuracy of determination of chlorine content in tobacco raw stock and bag of tobacco products. The method is based on titration of chloride-ions with silver ions. The method includes tobacco pulverisation, sampling, mixing with distilled water, thorough mashing of the produced mixture into a homogenous mass, the mass filtration, the produced filtrate aliquot portion sampling, extracted chloride titration in aliquot with acidified specific concentration water solution of silver nitrate that is introduced drop by drop, with titration progress controlled with the help of specially prepared indicator paper representing filtering paper impregnated with potassium chromate; after all the chloride become bound in the form of silver nitrate excessive silver ions form a compound with potassium chromate which is evidenced by appearance of rosy-red coloration in the centre of the wet blot; the quantity of chlorine in sample being analysed is calculated from the formula.

EFFECT: method is simple in application, requiring no complex analytical equipment, and may be used for operational control and comparative evaluation of the quality of the material under study.
