FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to catalysis. Described is a method of preparing a catalyst for cracking oil fractions, which involves conducting ion exchange for cations of rare-earth elements and ammonia on zeolite NaY, ultra-stabilisation of the zeolite in a medium of water vapour, mixing the zeolite with a matrix, components of which are bentonite clay, aluminium hydroxide and amorphous aluminosilicate, obtaining a composition, spray drying the obtained composition, followed by calcination to obtain a catalyst, wherein ultra-stabilisation of the zeolite is carried out thrice: first and second ultra-stabilisation at steps of preparing the zeolite before mixing with components of the matrix, and third ultra-stabilisation of the zeolite is carried out in the catalyst composition; ion exchange for cations of rare-earth elements and ammonia is carried out four times to obtain ultra-stable zeolite Y with content of sodium oxide of not more than 0.6 wt %, oxides of rare-earth elements of 0.5-5.5 wt %, and content of oxides of rare-earth elements in the catalyst of 0.05-1.1 wt %.
