FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method comprises rotation of shaping cutter and shaped shaft. To simplify the shape of cutting edge, shaping cutter is arranged offset relative to its axis so that numerical magnitude of eccentricity equals one fourth of difference in diameters of circumscribed and inscribed circles of shaped shaft. Note here that starting point of cutting belonging in shaped shaft and shaping cutter are located at mirror line of said cutter along its displacement by amount of eccentricity at smallest distance from locating center to cutter working edge and at circumscribed circle of polyhedral shaped shaft. Note here that in cutting ratio between angular velocities of cutter rotation and that of said shaft is selected to a multiple of the number of faces of said shaft. To produce a complete contour in shaft processing it makes one revolution about its center. While shaping cutter is revolved about its center some times multiple of those of shaped shaft faces.
EFFECT: simplified shape of cutting edge.
