FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method includes steps of at least: a) providing a medium containing a common aliphatic medium which contains at least 50 wt % of one or more aliphatic hydrocarbons, having a boiling point in the range of 45°C to 80°C at pressure of 1013 GPa, and a mixture of monomers containing at least one isoolefin monomer and at least one multi-olefin monomer, the weight ratio of the mixture of monomers to the common aliphatic medium ranging from 40:60 to 95:5, b) polymerising the mixture of monomers in that medium to form a rubber solution containing a rubber polymer which is at least substantially dissolved in the medium containing a common aliphatic medium and residual monomers from the mixture of monomers; c) separating the residual monomers of the mixture of monomers from the rubber solution to form a separate rubber solution containing a rubber polymer and a common aliphatic medium; d) halogenating the rubber polymer in the separated rubber solution.
EFFECT: avoiding the need to separate the rubber from the medium after polymerisation, subsequent repeated dissolution thereof in another solvent for halogenation, thereby saving energy.
