FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to engineering ceramics based on zirconium dioxide with a transformable tetragonal (t') crystalline phase and can be used to make wear-resistant parts in connecting articles for fibre-optic communication lines, friction pairs in pumps for pumping abrasive-containing and aggressive liquids and components in high mechanical load conditions. The method employs chemical deposition of zirconium and yttrium hydroxides with calcination of the co-deposited hydroxides with moisture content of the mixture of 55-60% at a heating rate of 300-400°C/h to temperature of 1000-1100°C in order to convert hydroxides to oxides. The ceramic material is sintered at 1500-1550°C at a cooling rate of 650-700°C/h to temperature of 900-1100°C.

EFFECT: method enables to obtain dense ceramic material with a nanostructure and a transformable tetragonal (t') crystalline phase, which improves mechanical properties and is needed for making ceramic containers with precision capillary openings for connecting optical fibres.
