FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to recovery of plutonium from spent nuclear fuel using aqueous methods. Disclosed is a method for re-extraction of plutonium from an organic solution of tributyl phosphate, containing plutonium in a tetravalent state, into an aqueous nitrate solution. The method is carried out by contacting said organic solution with an aqueous solution containing nitric acid, carbohydrazide as a reducing agent which reduces plutonium to a trivalent state and aminocarboxylic acid. The aminocarboxylic acid used can be glycine with concentration of 0.2-0.5 mol/l in the solution of the reducing agent. Content of nitric acid in the solution of the reducing agent is kept in the range of 0.25-1.5 mol/l.
EFFECT: achieving high density of re-extracting plutonium from an organic solution of tributyl phosphate while reducing concentration of the reducing agent and increasing the range of the operating concentration of nitric acid.
