FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy. The method to produce zirconium from melted salts includes loading of salts into a cell, their melting by AC current to produce electrolyte, electrolysis of melted salts with correction of electrolyte composition, growing cathode residue, its cutting and cooling in atmosphere of argon after removal of anode gases. Electrolysis is carried out from melted salts containing fluorides and chlorides of sodium, potassium, zirconium fluorides and chlorides, with mole ratio of potassium to sodium from 1.5 to 4.0 and sodium to zirconium from 4.0 to 40.0.
EFFECT: method provides for increased efficiency of a cell, yield by current and extraction of zirconium powder, and also duration of continuous operation of a cell in a stationary mode.
