FIELD: non-ferrous industry; methods of production of non-ferrous metals and alloys.
SUBSTANCE: the invention is pertaining to the field of non-ferrous industry, in particular, to the methods of production of non-ferrous metals and alloys, first of all aluminum, by electrolysis of suspensions of metals in fused electrolytes, at that besides aluminum, the method allows to produce a magnesium, lithium, sodium, lead. The method of production of the metals by electrolysis of suspensions of oxides of metals in the fused salts includes passage of the electrical current between the cathode and the anode, at that the content of the metals oxides in the fused salts is selected within the limits ensuring effective separation of the near-electrodes spaces and excluding the possible convection in the break between the electrodes and at that makes 1О-60 mass %. The temperature of the electrolysis is maintained above the temperature of liquidus of the salts being crystallized on the electrodes, but eliminating saline passivation of the surface of the electrodes and allowing to use the high densities of the electric current. The dispersive medium of the suspension of the metals oxides is represented by the fluoride or fluoride-chloride melts or chloride molten electrolyte. The metal deposited on the cathode, in particular, aluminum, and the gas, in particular, oxygen - on the anode are exported along the external and the internal surfaces of the electrodes. The invention ensures exclusion of the convection in the space between the electrodes and the improved efficiency of the process.
