SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a video playback device based on a playlist. The playback device for playing a playlist defines as a current playback sub-element, a playback sub-element which is optimal for the current playback element, each time the current playback element changes. The playback device continues to play the playback element when a file with clips, to which the current playback sub-element references, is loaded and is in an active state in a local storage device; and, by outputting a DataStarved event, stops playing the playback element when the file with clips, to which the current playback sub-element references, is in an unavailability or inaccessible state in the recording medium.

EFFECT: enabling a playback device to instruct an application which files with clips should be loaded first by priority, when there are multiple files with clips to be loaded, owing to the presence of multiple playback sub-elements.
