FIELD: measurement equipment.
SUBSTANCE: in the method to determine depth of object submersion with a sonar they emit a probing signal, the echo signal is received by a vertical linear antenna, having narrow directional characteristics in the vertical plane and wide directional characteristics in the horizontal plane, the echo signal is received by a horizontal linear antenna having narrow directional characteristics in the horizontal plane and wide directional characteristics in the vertical plane, the echo signal is received simultaneously by both antennas, the distance and direction of echo signal arrival are measured, when measured distances match each other, the directional characteristic is detected in the vertical plane, the elevation angle is detected by deviation of the position of this characteristic from direction of the upper horizontal characteristic, and depth of submersion is detected relative to the depth of radiator submersion according to the formula Hob=Dvert Sin(α), where Dvert - measured distance to the target, α - angle between the characteristic in the vertical plane, in which the echo signal is found from the target and direction of the carrier movement, they measure depth of sonar submersion Hsonar, and depth of object submersion is detected by H=Hob+Hsonar.
EFFECT: measurement of object submersion depth at any depth by an underwater sonar, also in case of small depth of the area.
