FIELD: hydroacoustics.
SUBSTANCE: used to construct navigation hydroacoustic stations for illuminating the near environment, increasing their efficiency and expanding the scope of tasks to be solved. The method involves emitting sounding signals, receiving echo signals reflected from a detected marine object, measuring distance D with a sonar mounted on a moving carrier, and determining the vertical angle of the underwater object, receiving the echo signal with a hydroacoustic antenna with an omnidirectional or weakly directional characteristic, and measuring the horizontal speed movements of the sonar carrier V, measure the emission time of the first probing signal T1 and distance D1, measure the emission time of the second probing signal T2 and distance D2, determine the path VAT traversed by the sonar during the time (T2 - T1) =Δ T, and the vertical position angle of the detected marine object is determined as where S is the area of a triangle with sides D1, D2 and VΔ T, and
