FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: in the method, an article made of gold is selected as a reference sample which enables to authenticate material of the article using a physical analysis method based on magnetic effects. An article made of gold and the reference sample are alternately placed in a homogeneous magnetic field. The detectable information feature used is the effect of change in magnetic field energy when an article made of cold is placed in said field. If, upon placing an article made of gold in said field, the magnetic field energy is less than that when the reference sample is placed, the article is considered counterfeit.

EFFECT: high reliability and rapid authentication of articles made of gold.
