FIELD: process engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to repair of equipment including thick-sheet elements and articles with surface cracks and can be used in reconditioning of aircraft, agricultural and automotive machinery. Proposed method comprises creation of structural barrier on the way of surface crack growth by applying filler material at crack vertex under electrode of contact point or seam welding machine. Local point heating and melting is conducted at 750-800°C of filler material and main metal to its amorphous state. Note here that high-frequency ultrasound oscillations are applied during the entire process. Then, air cooling is performed and nucleus with homogeneous structure of crystallised metal is formed to cover said surface crack vertex by at least 1/2 of the diameter of said nucleus.

EFFECT: higher residual strength, longer life of thick-sheet structures of structural, low- and mean-carbon steels.
