SUBSTANCE: invention relates to display of graphic subtitles by decoding graphic data compressed using series length encoding for use in BD-ROM, as well as to DVB-MHP and DVD-Video. BD-ROM has a plurality subtitle streams written on it, each configured to be reproduced synchronously with a video stream, and playlist information. The playlist information includes reproduction element information and a display method flag. The reproduction information element defines an information reproduction partition which indicates the entry time and exit time on a video stream reproduction time axis and includes a table of stream information. The display method flag indicates whether control according to the subtitle display method is real or not. The table of stream information assigns the reproducing device one of the subtitle streams to be selected if control according to the subtitle display method is real.

EFFECT: creating a method of displaying subtitles which must be changed in accordance with the processing capacity of the reproducing device and the age of the user, without compromising compatibility with the existing data structure of stream of graphic subtitles.
